Dr Joe Zhou
Principal Dentist
Dr Joe Zhou is the Principal Dentist and Founder of McKinnon Dental Care, alongside our sister clinics Knoxfield Dental Care and Bright Start Dental.
Joe migrated to New Zealand with his family at a young age and grew up in Wellington. He later pursued his dental studies at the University of Otago, where he developed a strong foundation in comprehensive dental care. In addition to his dental qualifications, Joe has completed a Juris Doctor degree and is an admitted Australian lawyer, reflecting his broad academic interests and unwavering commitment to professional excellence.
He is well known for his friendly manner and gentle touch—qualities that form the cornerstone of his patient-centred approach to dentistry.
Joe enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, with particular interests in orthodontics and oral surgery. He has gained valuable clinical experience working in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department at Dunedin Hospital in New Zealand, as well as the Oral Surgery Department at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne.
Committed to excellence, Joe believes that dentistry is a lifelong learning journey. He regularly undertakes continuing professional development to stay up to date with the latest techniques and advancements, ensuring he delivers the highest standard of care to his patients.
Outside of dentistry, Joe values quality time with his family. He enjoys playing the piano and maintaining an active lifestyle through weight and strength training, reflecting his belief in overall health and wellbeing.

Dr Shannon Teh
Associate Dentist
Shannon graduated from La Trobe University in Bendigo with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Dentistry and a Master of Dentistry. Known for her gentle and approachable manner, Shannon is passionate about creating a positive dental experience for all patients—particularly those who feel anxious or nervous about visiting the dentist.
Prior to joining Bright Start Dental, Shannon has worked in private practices across Melbourne and Ballarat. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and is committed to ongoing professional development, with a particular interest in restorative dentistry and paediatrics.
Shannon speaks both Mandarin and English.
In her spare time, Shannon enjoys spending time outdoors—whether it’s going for a run at her local park or camping. She also loves exploring new cuisines and cherishing quality time with her family.

Dr Xin Er Lai
Associate Dentist
Xin Er graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide and spent five years practising in regional South Australia before relocating to Melbourne.
She believes that an excellent dental experience begins with feeling heard. Known for her gentle approach and calm chairside manner, Xin Er is committed to making every visit as relaxed and stress-free as possible. She understands that dental treatment can feel intimidating for some patients, and takes the time to listen to their concerns, explain treatment clearly, and help them feel at ease throughout their care.
Xin Er enjoys all aspects of dentistry, with particular interests in restorative treatment, crowns, root canal therapy, and clear aligners. She is also trained in Botox treatments for managing TMD and teeth grinding.
Outside the clinic, Xin Er is a passionate foodie and enjoys keeping active at the gym. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

Dr Bill Jiao

Born in Xi’an, Bill (Lebei) moved to Melbourne in his early years. He completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at The University of Melbourne, following a Bachelor of Biomedicine. He has worked across a number of practices in Melbourne, providing care for a diverse range of patients.
Bill takes a thoughtful and straightforward approach to care—prioritising clear explanations, well-planned treatment, and long-term outcomes. Rather than rushing decisions, he works closely with patients to help them understand their options and choose what suits them best.
He enjoys all areas of general dentistry, with particular interests in restorative care (filling, crown and bridges) and oral surgery. He is also involved in oral health research, supporting his commitment to modern, evidence-based dentistry.

Mr Ruimin Yao
Prosthetist
Ruimin is a registered dental prosthetist in Australia and a graduate of RMIT University. Having completed two years of clinical practice at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital, he brings over 15 years of extensive experience in denture and dental appliance fabrication. Known for his precision and attention to detail, Ruimin is dedicated to providing high-quality, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing outcomes for every patient.
